Dylan Malmquist is making special teams his specialty.
His shorthanded goal in the first period marked the second consecutive game he helped trump an opponent's advantage.
Malmquist's goal gave Edina a 3-0 lead and greatly reduced Stillwater's comeback chances in the Hornets' eventual 6-1 quarterfinals victory. His shortie against Bloomington Jefferson in last week's section final had a similar effect.
"Our philosophy is to play good defense first but to be ready if an offensive opportunity presents itself," said Malmquist, who also assisted on three goals.
Said Stillwater forward Brandon Jungmann: "When they popped that shortie, it kind of took the wind out of our sails."
Fire away
Roseau coach Andy Lundbohm was asked whether Lakeville North's trio of Poehling brothers embodied the instinctual, creative playing style so prominent in northern Minnesota playing.
"Northern guys shoot more — like this guy," said Lundbohm, gesturing toward Rams senior Zach Yon.
And how.
