St. Jude Medical Inc. held a grand opening ceremony Monday for a new $62 million headquarters building and technology center at its Little Canada campus.
St. Jude CEO Daniel Starks was joined by Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Rep. Bev. Scalze, DFL-Little Canada, and a representative from the office of Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn. The building has a green roof with plants that contribute to stormwater control and reduce solar heat gain, wood materials from sustainably managed forests and substantial use of recycled materials.
The 180,000-square-foot building on 10 acres includes office space, research and development facilities, light manufacturing and training facilities for the medical technology company's corporate and atrial fibrillation division employees.
The $4.4 billion company broke ground for the facility in November 2007 and employees moved into the building in May and June.
About 324 employees will work in the new buildings, which have capacity for 400. St. Jude employs about 2,250 people in Minnesota.
