Miller ends drought in downhill Bode Miller has had a rough time since splitting from the U.S. Ski Team. But on Saturday, he posted his first victory of the season, on one of the toughest World Cup downhill courses.
Miller put down a nearly perfect run and covered the 2.03-mile Stelvio course in Bormio, Italy, in 2 minutes, 0.57 seconds. Andreas Buder of Austria was second, 0.45 seconds behind, and Jan Hudec of Canada was third, 0.54 back.
Mille pulled within one victory of Phil Mahre's U.S. record of 27.
Miller won both the downhill and super-G in Bormio at the 2005 world championships. His last victory came in Wengen nearly a year ago.
• Sweden ended Canada's winning streak in the World Junior Hockey Championship at 20, beating the three-time defending champions 4-3 in Pardubice, Czech Republic, on Tobias Forsberg's goal with 7 seconds left. Also Saturday in Liberec, a goal by the Gophers' Mike Carman helped the United States improve to 3-0 in Group B with a 3-2 victory over Russia.

Arsenal takes Premier League lead Arsenal won 4-1 at Everton behind Eduardo Silva's two goals, moving into first place in England's Premier League ahead of Manchester United.
Defending champion United slipped from top spot after it lost 2-1 at West Ham. Arsenal leads the league with 47 points, two more than United.

U.S, Aussies win at Hopman Cup Meghann Shaughnessy, filling in for Serena Williams, got the United States off to a winning start, and Mardy Fish clinched a 2-1 victory over India at the opener of the Hopman Cup in Perth, Australia.
Shaughnessy won the last five games against ailing Sania Mirza for a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory, and Fish secured the U.S. lead with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Rohan Bopanna.
Australia upset the Czech Republic 2-1.
