Jordan senior forward Jimmy Vollbrecht was named the Minnesota River Conference boys' basketball most valuable player.
The 6-8 Vollbrecht finished as the second-leading scorer in school history with 1,458 career points. He averaged 24 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots per game in conference play during his final season. He scored a season-high 38 points in a 76-75 setback at Mayer Lutheran.
Vollbrecht set the boys' single-game scoring mark with a 47-point performance in a 76-67 victory over Southwest Christian his junior season. The previous record was 42 points shared by Warren Will and Eric Ritter. Will scored his 42 points against New Prague in 1957, and Ritter matched that total against Holy Family in 2002.
The two-year captain is headed to Minnesota Duluth.
Jordan coach Matt Urbanek was named the conference's coach of the year. The Hubmen won the seven-team conference with an 11-1 record and finished 25-4 overall.
Wrestler wins in Estonia
Shakopee freshman Paxton Creese, wrestling at 46 kilograms for his age group, won gold for Team USA at the Tallinn Open held April 1 in Tallinn, Estonia. Creese recorded three falls and a technical fall, including a pin in the final.
Activities director named
Tom Dasovich was recently named activities director at Lakeville South, replacing Neil Strader. Dasovich held the same role at Watertown-Mayer the past two years.
