Last week, construction officially began for the Legends at Hazeltine, a $30 million senior living and care community in Chaska.

Located at the northeast corner of Hwy. 41 and Hazeltine Boulevard in the southwestern suburb, the project is the result of a partnership between Ridgeview Medical Center and Intergenerational Living and Health Care Inc., a nonprofit group.

The first phase of development involves 125 apartments of independent and assisted living, memory care and care suites, which will open in September 2014. One- and two-bedroom apartments will have full kitchens and washers and dryers.

In addition, the initial phase will include three types of dining facilities (formal, casual and pub), a 150-seat theater, indoor pool, spa and beauty salon, fitness center, medical office, fireside lounge, library, game room, arts and crafts room, business center, sundry shop and a chapel/meditation room. Four-season porches will be located in the common areas throughout the building, and an outdoor terrace and fire pit will overlook the Chaska Par 30 golf course, according to a news release.

Future plans include an outpatient rehabilitation center.

The Goodman Group of Chaska will develop and manage the project.
