Men's highlights: Duke makes big noise for No. 1

NO. 2 DUKE 85, MARYLAND 44: Gerald Henderson scored 17 points for the Blue Devils on Saturday in a resounding ACC victory over the visiting Terrapins that could propel Duke to the No. 1 ranking this week. Duke (18-1, 5-0) led 40-15 at halftime and 60-20 less than 4 minutes into the second half. It was the worst loss for the Terrapins (13-6, 2-3) under coach Gary Williams.

NO. 6 OKLAHOMA 95, BAYLOR 76: Blake Griffin had 20 points and 17 rebounds for his 16th double-double of the season, and the host Sooners (19-1, 5-0 Big 12) routed the Bears for their seventh consecutive win.

NO. 11 MARQUETTE 79, DePAUL 70: Jerel McNeal scored 21 points and Lazar Hayward added 16 points and 17 rebounds in a home victory that left the Golden Eagles (17-2, 6-0) unbeaten in the Big East.

WASHINGTON 86, NO. 13 UCLA 75: Freshman Isaiah Thomas scored 24 points and Jon Brockman added 18 points for the host Huskies (15-4, 6-1), who won for the 13th time in 14 games and took over the Pac-10 lead.

NO. 22 MEMPHIS 54, TENNESSEE 52: Tyreke Evans scored 17 points, including a free throw with one second remaining, for the Tigers (16-3) in a victory over the Volunteers (12-6) in Knoxville, Tenn. Evans scored Memphis' final seven points, including a layup with 2:53 remaining to take a 53-50 lead. Wayne Chism scored 15 points for Tennessee, including the Vols' final 11.

• Kentucky guard Ramon Harris collapsed outside the team's locker room at halftime of its victory at Alabama and was taken by ambulance to a hospital. A Kentucky spokesman said that Harris, who played only seven minutes, was released from the hospital in the early evening.

Area highlights

ST. THOMAS 73, ST. OLAF 61: Al McCoy's 16 points helped the second-ranked Tommies, the lone unbeaten team in Division III, beat the Oles in Northfield, Minn.

HAMLINE 84, MACALESTER 56: The Pipers ended a nine-game losing streak with a victory over the Scots. Hamline was led by 18 points apiece from Carl Hipp and Tony Thrasher. Brad Cox had 18 points for Macalester.

ST. JOHN'S 65, CARLETON 63: Andy Burns had 13 points and 10 assists to help the host Johnnies stop the Knights.

Women's highlights

NO. 8 CALIFORNIA 65, OREGON 50: Ashley Walker scored 23 points for the Golden Bears (16-2, 7-0 Pac-10). The 10 first-half points by the Ducks (7-11, 4-4) set a record for the worst first half at home in Oregon history.

VILLANOVA 55, NO. 13 NOTRE DAME 48: Laura Kurz scored 16 points, and the host Wildcats (11-8, 3-2 Big East) beat the Irish for the first time since Feb. 7, 2006.

Area highlights

AUGUSTANA 95, MSU MANKATO 89 (OT): The visiting Vikings made nine of 10 free throws in the overtime period and handed the Mavericks, ranked No. 3 in Division II, their first loss of the season. Megan Doyle scored 29 to lead the Vikings. Joanne Noreen scored a career-high 39 -- including 15-for-15 at the line -- to lead the Mavericks.

ST. BENEDICT 69, CARLETON 57: Mindy Schmidt's five three-pointers and 19 points led the Blazers over the host Knights despite 20 points and nine rebounds from Carleton's Hannah Oken-Berg.
