San Antonio, last team to beat Lynx, visits Target Center on Sunday

The Lynx were 6-1 versus the Silver Stars last season. After losing their first five meetings, San Antonio beat them once at home in the first round of the playoffs on Sept. 18.

The Lynx are 12-0 since losing to San Antonio in a playoff game in Texas on Sept. 18 last season.

The Silver Stars were only 1-6 versus the Lynx last season, but the first two losses came on buzzer-beaters by Lindsay Whalen in Texas and Taj McWilliams-Franklin at the Target Center the same week.

Those teams play at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Target Center and both are coming off wins on Friday.

Point guard Becky Hammon makes the Silver Stars (2-2) go. She had 30 points as San Antonio beat Phoenix 84-66 in its last game. She made seven of nine three-pointers. Seimone Augustus usually guards Hammon and does a good job of keeping her points down.

Hammon is averaging 19.8 points. Three teammates are also averaging in double figures: Sophia Young 13.5 points per game, Danielle Robinson 10.5 and Danielle Adams 10.0.

Coach Dan Hughes only goes about three deep on the bench. Tangela Smith, a 6-3 center the Silver Stars signed in the offseason to help in rebounding, had artrhoscopix knee surgery last week and is out indefinitely.

San Antonio was outrebounded by 5.7 rebounds per game last season, the biggest margin in the league. The Silver Stars are doing better on the boards this season.

HOW SILVER STARS WON

Jia Perkins scored 24 points and Sophia Young 23 in the Silver Stars' playoffs victory over the Lynx. Perkins was four of six on threes, Young made seven of 11 shots from the field.

The Lynx got little from their posts in that loss in scoring. Rebekkah Brunson was one for nine from the field for 3 points. She did have 16 boards. Taj McWilliams-Franklin made two of three shots for four points and had six rebounds.

The Lynx shot 39.5 percent to San Antonio's 43.1 percent and had 17 turnovers to the home team's nine.

So the 45-30 dominance of the Lynx on the boards was not enough.
