History: Founded by Van Dine in 1989 in Valley Cottage, N.Y.; moved to Minnesota in 1998; opened first plant in Faribault in 2004; second plant completed 2012 with production in 2013.

Parent company: Saint-Gobain, of Paris, France, whose construction-related units include U.S. building products maker CertainTeed. Saint-Gobain purchased 50 percent of Sage in 2010, and the rest in 2012.

Product: SageGlass, an electrochromic glass that controls sunlight in buildings without shades or blinds. Variable tint is activated by an electric control.

Employees: 137 now; 250 when new plant is at full capacity.
