His team scored the game's only touchdown before halftime, but Rosemount quarterback Cody Hogan wasn't satisfied.
Rosemount beats Burnsville, improves to 6-1
Rosemount laments missed opportunities in first half, then puts away sputtering Burnsville with big plays
An interception, fumble and a turnover on downs 4 yards from the Burnsville end zone left the Irish hungry.
"We knew there was more for us on the table," Hogan said. "We just had to stop shooting ourselves in the foot."
A second touchdown pass plus a scoring run from Hogan fueled a 21-0 victory, on the heels of last week's loss to Farmington. Both of Hogan's touchdown passes covered 37 yards. His 6-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter secured the home victory.
Rosemount (6-1) plays at Lake- ville North (7-0) on Wednesday with a chance to share the East Metro White subdistrict title.
"It was a great bounce-back victory," Hogan said. "Now we have to keep it going."
Rosemount's defense looked like the unit that held opponents scoreless for 15 consecutive quarters earlier this season. The defense forced Burnsville (5-2) to go three-and-out on nine of 13 possessions.
The Irish pounced in the third quarter after a punt into the wind that went almost nowhere. On the first play of the ensuing Irish drive, Hogan went over the top to Sam Nelson for a 37-yard touchdown and 14-0 lead.
"When we get three-and-outs we've got to take advantage so it was great to see Cody give him a chance to make the catch," Rosemount coach Jeff Erdmann said.
The Blaze, which lost starting quarterback Andrew Hanson to a broken foot, played its second game with backup quarterback Isiaah Harston. Burnsville failed to convert two turnovers into points in the first half. Running back Steph Olson Jr. got stopped on fourth down at the Irish 5-yard line.
"That one really is one we would like to have back," Burnsville coach Tyler Krebs said. "It's not all on the quarterback. We didn't block or run very well, and they're a very good defense."
Olson, Jackson Martens and Jake Shepley, Burnsville's trio of playmakers, struggled to get on track. "They've got some very good athletes so to not allow big plays was huge," Erdmann said.
