Rochester's Butorac wins tennis doubles title in Malaysia

Eric Butorac, a native of Rochester, Minn., and Jean-Julien Rojer boosted their chances of qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals when they won their third doubles title of the year, taking the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.

Seeded second, Butorac and Rojer defeated third seeds Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek 6-1, 6-3.

Butorac and Rojer stand just outside the qualification spots at No. 9; the top eight teams play at the season finale in London in November.

"Today was one of those days where every shot you hit the ball feels great. It's a pretty good wedding present," said Butorac, a newlywed.

Murray beats American Young in final

Fourth-ranked Andy Murray won his 19th career title, beating American Donald Young 6-2, 6-0 in the final of the Thailand Open in Bangkok. Murray was the top seed, and Young, ranked 55th in the world, was in his first tour final.

Sides to meet again todayThe sides in the NBA lockout will meet Monday in New York after a long session Saturday produced mostly chatter.

Commissioner David Stern said ground was gained when owners dropped their demand for a strict, hard salary cap. "We're not near anything," Stern said. "But wherever that is, we're closer than we were before."

On Monday, the talks will be reduced to the previous three-on-three format that has proved most productive.

"When you've got 40, 50 people in the room, it's kind of difficult," union leader Billy Hunter said.
