The Twins' Class AAA affiliate will become the Rochester Plates for one game next month, and fans are eating up the merchandise that honors a locally inspired meal.

It's a pretty safe bet Bartolo Colon won't still be with Class AAA Rochester come August 10. But that doesn't mean the Red Wings aren't taking advantage of the 5-foot-11, 285-pound pitcher's stint on Lake Ontario.

As minor league teams tend to do a time or two each summer, the Red Wings will change names and become the Rochester Plates for one game.

(Why the Plates? It's a nod to the town's famous Garbage Plate dish, which has many different variations but is essentially a disorganized canvas of one sandwich accompanied by a mess of sides and condiments that the locals go ga-ga for).

Response has been overwhelming. According to the Red Wings website, 10 different food stands will offer their version of a plate for the game. Nick Tahou's, home of the original Garbage Plate, will have a food truck on site. There will be a plate-eating contest and a bobbing for burgers promo

Oh, and pregame beers are $2.

All Plates-related merchandise - hats, shirts, jerseys - are already on back order.

The newest item up for sale? A No. 44 Bartolo Colon Rochester Plates shirt (or, shirsey).
