REMEMBERING SAUNDERS

Family: Wife, Debbie, and four children, including Ryan, a Timberwolves assistant coach.

High school: All-State point guard at Cuyahoga Heights High School in Ohio.

College: Four-year starting point guard for Gophers under coaches Bill Musselman and Jim Dutcher.

First job: Golden Valley Lutheran, where his teams were 92-13 in four seasons.

College assistant: Gophers (1981-86) and Tulsa (seven seasons).

Paying his dues: Seven seasons as head coach in Continental Basketball Association, where his teams were 253-137.

NBA: Head coach with the Timberwolves, Detroit and Washington; he's the only coach in Wolves history to have a winning record (427-392).

In addition: He was the Wolves' president of basketball operations and a part-owner.
