LONDON — The roof over Wimbledon's Centre Court has been closed for the first time during this year's tournament.

After three days of dry weather, showers caused the first rain delay at the championships on Thursday and organizers decided to shut the retractable roof over Centre Court, with last year's runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland leading Mathilde Johansson of France 6-1, 4-2.

Play continued on some other courts.

The retractable roof was installed on Centre Court in 2009, to help alleviate the perennial rain delays that often plague the tournament.
