Do you need help with your debt? Ask yourself these questions. If you answer yes more than a few times, you may want to consider speaking with someone about your debt.

  • Are your debts making your home life unhappy?
    • Does the pressure of your debts distract you from your daily work?
      • Have you ever made unrealistic promises to your creditors?
        • Do you ever fear that your employer, family or friends will learn the extent of your total indebtedness?
          • Are you concerned or anxious about your debt payments?
            • Does your credit-card balance increase each month?
              • Can you only afford to make minimum payments?
                • Do you pay on time?
                  • Do you know where you spend your money?
                    • Do you frequently charge items that you used to buy with cash?
                      • Are you relying on cash advances to pay bills?
                        • Are you applying for more credit because your other cards are maxed out?

State’s proposal for $1 billion advocated for one-time investments that will spawn long-term improvements in workforce, childbirth services and more. But it won’t offset the much bigger losses from cuts to the federal Medicaid health program.
