Prices at the high-end salvage shop might seem lofty to first-timers, especially those used to low-priced reproductions.
These vintage, rescued gems are the real thing, but 40 percent off or more takes away the sting. Strong categories include lighting, mantels, doors and ecclesiastical items. Also, look for art glass from Tiffany, Lustre Art, Steuben and Quezal. New arrivals worth checking out include mahogany doors from South America and quarter-sawn bird's-eye oak paneling.
Go Vikings - pay less As the Vikings' fortunes go, so go the prices of fan apparel. If the losses keep mounting, watch for overstock deals at discounters and hope that the ship will right itself next season.
DealSmart in Mounds View (Moundsview Square, 2553 NE. Hwy. 10, 763-717-2967) and Little Canada (Market Place Center, 2900 Rice St., 651-287-7899) is offering deals on men's T-shirts ($5), long-sleeve tees ($9) and sweatshirts ($13). While Target has a men's purple hooded sweatshirt on sale for $32 through Saturday, DealSmart's hooded sweatshirt is $15. Most are gray with purple lettering in large and extra-large sizes.
Another reason to check out DealSmart (www.dealsmartdeals.com) this week: an assortment of pink-ribbon apparel to benefit breast-cancer research, including thermal tops, sweatshirts and hooded sweatshirts.
Get gift-shop bargains It's the season for storewide sales at the metro area's most established gift shops. Last week Bibelot offered 20 percent off storewide. This week, Goodthings (www.shopgoodthings.com) offers the same deal Friday and Saturday in White Bear Lake (2184 4th St., 651-426-8006) and Maple Grove (12139 Elm Creek Blvd., 763-494-9255) on women's clothing, jewelry and home decor.
The third ruler in the gift-shop triumvirate, Patina, isn't offering storewide discounts, but watch for its super sale held at the Highland Park location in St. Paul next month.
