Angels righthander Jered Weaver threw his no-hitter Wednesday night by feasting on a Twins offense that looked completely inept for most of the series.
On Tuesday night, journeyman Jerome Williams tossed a three-hit shutout against the Twins. They didn't get a hit after the third inning, so if you add in the futility against Weaver, the Twins have now gone 48 plate appearances over 15 innings without a hit.
Also, in Monday's 4-3 loss, the Twins went scoreless against Angels starter C.J. Wilson for seven innings before getting three runs in the eighth.
"We came in here and they just knocked around," center fielder Denard Span said after Wednesday's 9-0 loss. "They had three good starting pitchers start for them, but nobody is going to feel sorry for us right now. We have to pick ourselves up. It's not going to get easier. It's going to get harder. So we need to man-up. I don't know if our backs are against the wall, but right now we need to turn it around."
* Manager Ron Gardenhire was pacing behind his desk when the media entered his office.
"A terrible night for Twins baseball. We got dominated by a very good pitcher over there. But we played terrible. We didn't pitch worth a darn. Not aggressive. Missed a play or two. And got no-hit by a very good pitcher over there, which doesn't make it any easier for our baseball team."
Gardenhire noted that the Twins had an off day Thursday to regroup before opening a three-game series in Seattle on Friday. Then he said, "Questions? And make them quick."
Asked if Liam Hendriks' performance (2.1 IP, 9 H, 6 ER) made it tougher on the offense, Gardenhire said, "He just didn't pitch well. The kid didn't get anything done. We didn't hold runners. They ran all over the place on us. All the little things that a baseball team's supposed to do, we didn't do.
