Postgame: Running out of things to say with Twins at 60-98

The manager, the reliever, and the reporter were all at a loss after Saturday's doubleheader sweep.

CLEVELAND -- Manager Ron Gardenhire kept his postgame comments short tonight. He mentioned how Scott Diamond cruised through the first five innings in 73 pitches before he started leaving everything up in the strike zone.

"He couldn't stop the snowball that was going downhill, and everybody else added snow to it," Gardenhire said.

Well, that beats the old cliche about relievers adding fuel to the fire.

Matt Capps answered reporters questions like he always does. But I must say, it's tough coming up with good questions for athletes at times like this. I mumbled some stuff that wasn't even a question before another writer bailed me out.

"What do you want me to say?" Capps said. "It's been a terrible year. It's not been a lot of fun. I'm ready to go home for the offseason and kind of unwind and start fresh."

Once again, even when things were going good for the Twins, they made a glaring mistake. As I said earlier in the season, we really should come up with a sponsor for the Baserunning Blunder of the Day.

In the third inning, with one out and runners at second and third, Brian Dinkelman flied out to short right field. Rene Tosoni, who'd just stroked a nice double to put the Twins in position to pad their 3-0 lead, inexplicably started running toward third, which started an inning-ending rundown.

Normally, there's a punch line here from Gardy, but he was out of words. I think everybody is at this point.
