What a strange post-game scene this was.
The Lynx had just finished off San Antonio, turning a close game into a one-sided win with a 20-6 run that started late in the third quarter. Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen was talking with the media when, not far away, Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve accidentally knocked over the table holding the team's post-game meal.
Fire.
Seriously. The burners meant to keep the food warm were burning on the carpet. That is, until somebody grabbed an extinguisher and put it out.
Well, to push a rather painful metaphor, that's what Lindsay Whalen did during the game. With the Lynx struggling mightily to hit a shot, Whalen put the fire out with a wonderful first half and a great overall game to lead her team to victory.
Whalen had 23 points. Of those, 13 came on 5-for-9 shooting in the first half, when the rest of the team was going a combined 6-for-22. That's why the Lynx were within a point at halftime, still in the game. The rest of the team joined in for the second half and the result was the team's 11th straight home victory.
Here are some thoughts on the game:
--It seems Whalen always seems to know what the team needs to win. Most nights its getting the ball to the right person. Tonight it was scoring.
