Police on Thursday released the identity of the man who was shot and wounded after a dispute inside a downtown Minneapolis strip club spilled into the street.

Roy Milton Burns, 48, of St. Paul, was shot at about 3:40 a.m. on Oct. 5, police said.

Police said soon after the shooting that Burns was taken by emergency responders to HCMC in critical condition. A hospital spokeswoman said Friday that his condition has improved to satisfactory.

Police have yet to announce any arrests in connection with the shooting, nor disclose any details about what led to the altercation.

Officers initially responded to a report of an assault in the club, in the 300 block of 3rd Street S., police said.

The officers soon heard gunfire and found the man with “potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds,” a police statement read.

Preliminary information indicated that an altercation began inside the club and “continued down the block, where it escalated into gunfire,” the statement continued.
