Pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle in St. Paul, driver in custody

The crash happened Tuesday night at Front Avenue and Grotto Street in the South Como neighborhood.

A man is dead and a driver is in custody in connection with a car-pedestrian crash Tuesday, Feb. 3, in St. Paul’s Como neighborhood.

Officers went to the intersection of Front Avenue and N. Grotto Street at about 6:30 p.m. after getting a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.

Police found a man with severe head injuries lying in the street. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, said Nikki Muehlhausen, the St. Paul Police Department’s spokesperson.

The name of the victim has not been released.

Officers located the motorist and the sedan he was driving near the crash scene, Muehlhausen said.

The driver, 49, is in custody and being held on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide, Muehlhausen said.

The St. Paul Police Department’s traffic and pedestrian safety unit is investigating.
