Making his second TV appearance in less than 12 hours, Gov. Tim Pawlenty told George Stephanopoulos of "Good Morning America" that he was running for president — this time of his hockey association.
Pawlenty used a similar line on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" Thursday night, but it was the only joke he made in his GMA appearance Friday morning. The Minnesota governor's five-minute interview with Stephanopoulos was a brisk discussion that touched on the oil spill, Nevada tea partier Sharon Angle and Pawelnty's thinking as he considers a run for the White House.
Stephanopoulos asked Pawlenty his take on Tuesday's primary results, and Pawlenty called it a year for women in the GOP. "My party needs to have more faces and voices that aren't just middle-aged men," said Pawlenty, who most would likely call a middle-aged man himself.
After Pawlenty listed off a number of female Republican candidates this year, Stephanopoulos asked him about Nevada tea party candidate Sharon Angle, who has called for abolishing Social Security.
"Doing away with social Security is not something most Republicans would support," Pawlenty said. "Most Republican say Social Security needs to be reformed, not abolished."
Like Jon Stewart on Thursday night, Stephanopoulos asked Pawlenty to explain how he is weighing whether to run for president. Pawlenty used the same analysis – without the "big shtick" joke that he gave Stewart, saying, "To run for president these days you've got to be famous, have lot of money or have novelty. I don't have any of that, but I do have some good ideas."
