MILWAUKEE -- The Twins have lost six straight against the Brewers, dating to last year, and need to win today to avoid another sweep.

With a four-game losing streak, the Twins need a win today to pull back to 10 games under .500 before opening a nine-game homestand against the Dodgers, Brewers and Rays.

Carl Pavano is 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA in his past four starts. He got the win Tuesday in San Francisco, when the Twins jumped to an 8-0 first-inning lead against Giants lefty Madison Bumgarner. Since that outburst, the Twins have scored seven runs in their past 35 innings.

Today, they'll face Milwaukee's No. 5 starter, Chris Narveson.

* Joe Mauer is not in the starting lineup, with a day game after a night game. Manager Ron Gardenhire said Mauer would be the DH if this game were played in an AL ballpark. These are the days when it would benefit Mauer to learn another position, such as first base. He'll be taking grounders at first during the upcoming homestand.

* Jason Kubel (sprained right foot) is likely headed to Class AAA Rochester for a rehab assignment. Gardy said he'd like to see Kubel play seven games and get 28-30 at-bats.
