Overrated/underrated

Up: Belly dancing; down: Hollywood hair

Overrated

Almost every actress, TV personality and model has the same hairstyle: long, highlighted and arranged with great effort into loose curls. I call it Hollywood hair, but it’s everywhere, sported by everyone from party girls to yoga moms. It’s attractive but no longer fresh. It’s time to take out the extensions, trim the split ends and let natural textures run free.

Underrated

It’s not just shaking your hips: Belly dancing is great exercise, and it’s fun. Check out “Shimmy” on FitTV, or classes offered through community ed or schools such as Cassandra. There’s nothing quite like popping your hips in an “M and M” or making snake arms to feel like a goddess, as the Canadian announcer on “Shimmy” would say.
