Two of the metro area's top basketball players became the all-time scoring leaders for their respective programs last week.
Osseo senior Ian Theisen, who will play Division I basketball at South Dakota State, did it with his 18th and final point in a victory against Coon Rapids. Theisen broke the Osseo career scoring record of 1,492 points, previously held by 2002 graduate Bryan Foss.
Theisen rose to fame as a sophomore, hitting a 15-foot jump shot with no time remaining that gave Osseo a 49-47 victory over Lakeville North and the Class 4A state title.
Anoka senior Claire Lundberg, who will play at Seton Hall, scored 14 points in a victory against Maple Grove, raising her career total to 1,136.
She passed the 1,000-point plateau earlier this season and leads the Tornadoes with 14.5 points per game.
Andover hires soccer coach
Andover announced the hiring of Tracey Griess as the new girls' soccer coach.
Griess, a varsity assistant coach for the Huskies the past four years, participated in two NCAA Division I Final Four tournaments with Colorado College.
Streaks and statistics
• Blaine girls' hockey entered the week riding a five-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 30-2 during that stretch. The Bengals' winning ways could continue; they went a combined 4-0-1 against their final five opponents.
