A Northstar commuter train struck a pickup truck that was stopped on the tracks Friday morning in Coon Rapids, sending the driver to the hospital with serious injuries.

Buses were dispatched to replace trains on remaining morning trips after the incident happened about 7:10 a.m. near the intersection of 119th Av. NW. and Northdale Blvd., said Metro Transit spokesman Jeremy Zoss.

“All stations will be served by this replacement bus service,” Metro Transit said in alert posted on its website and sent by social media.

The crossing is equipped with warning lights, bells and gates, Zoss said, and the train was headed north at the time of the collision.

Information about afternoon trips will be provided later Friday, he said.

Northstar trains run between Target Field and Big Lake.

The Metro Transit Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Coon Rapids Police Department, and Anoka County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. The Metro Transit Police Department and Minnesota State Patrol are jointly investigating the collision.

No other information was immediately available.
