State Sen. Omar Fateh’s wife delivered a baby boy late Sunday, just 10 days after Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey’s wife had a baby, too.
Fateh is the leading candidate challenging Frey for mayor in November, after winning the endorsement of Minneapolis Democrats last month.
The Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party’s endorsement attracted national attention because of Fateh’s similarities to Zohran Mamdani, who won the mayoral primary in New York City. Both are young, democratic socialist, Muslim lawmakers.
And now, Fateh is a father. His wife, Kaltum, had a son they named Imran. Fateh released a statement on social media saying, “Mom and baby are both doing well. I’m incredibly overwhelmed with love and gratitude as we begin this next chapter of our lives, growing our family in the city we love.”
On July 31, Frey and his wife, Sarah Clarke, announced the birth of their second daughter, Estelle Bloom Frey. The mayor released a statement saying, “I am so happy for Senator Fateh and his wife! Becoming a dad is the best thing that ever happened to me, and I know how much joy Imran will bring to their lives.”
Fateh’s campaign manager, Akhilesh Menawat, said, “The Fateh campaign is so happy for Kaltum, Omar, and Imran. We also want to congratulate Mayor Frey and his growing family this election season. I know that we have a shared hope to make Minneapolis a city where all kids can grow, learn, and thrive.”
