Nearly 300,000 pounds of raw beef distributed in Minnesota and three other states have been recalled because of possible contamination with E. coli., according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection.
Greater Omaha Packing of Omaha, Neb., recalled the beef products produced on July 13. The products, which bear the stamp "EST. 960A" inside the USDA mark of inspection, were distributed to processors in Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana and Nebraska.
A routine sample collected tested positive for E. coli. No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported.
E. coli can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps two to eight days after exposure. Some people can develop a type of kidney failure marked by easy bruising, pallor and deceased urine output, according to the release. The condition is most common in children under 5 and older adults.
