Joe Mauer is out of the lineup for the second straight game as he gets over his back spasms. He's spent parts of both days working out, and has told the trainers he feels better. We're just not sure when he'll be able to return to the lineup. We're supposed to talk to Mauer after the game, so hopefully we'll get an update later.

Samuel Deduno has about an 80-pitch limit tonight as he makes his first start of the season after making seven appearances in relief. He's got to keep the run of good starts going. Twins starters have posted a 2.98 ERA over the last eight games.

Danny Santana will make his first major league start tonight. as he get his turn at short. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire has watched Santana take balls in the outfield and has liked what he's seen. He said he considered starting Santana in left and using Jason Kubel as the DH, but that thought ended when Santana then had a sinking fly ball bounce under his glove.

My spider senses are telling me that a roster move might be coming. I don't think the manager is happy with just two bench players. The starters are pitching well, so 13 pitchers might no longer be needed. Gardy definitely wants another outfielder up. Could it be Oswaldo Arica?

Josh Willingham (left wrist) hit off of a tee Tuesday with no issues.

Aaron Hicks (concussion) took some like swings with no issues.

Mike Peflrey (groin) threw in the bullpen with no issues.
