WASHINGTON - Candace Parker was 10 years old when she watched Lisa Leslie win her first Olympic gold medal in Atlanta.

Twelve years later, Parker gets a chance to help her Los Angeles Sparks teammate win an unprecedented fourth consecutive gold in the Beijing Olympics. They were two of the nine players placed on the U.S. women's basketball team Saturday.

The Lynx's Seimone Augustus, along with Cappie Pondexter and Sylvia Fowles, will make their Olympic debuts. Also on the team are Olympic veterans Katie Smith (her third Olympics), Tina Thompson, Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird.

"This is a dream come true for me," Augustus said, "and an opportunity that I have been striving for since I first started playing basketball."

Lynx rookie Candice Wiggins is one of the candidates for three remaining slots to be filled by U.S. coach Anne Donovan. Wiggins and Lynx teammate Lindsey Harding played for the U.S. national team just before the Olympics. Harding has not played this season because of a knee injury.

Other possible candidates include former Gophers guard Lindsay Whalen, Kara Lawson and Swin Cash.
