More power for Escape Ford Motor Co. unveiled the 2009 versions of the Escape and its corporate twin, the Mercury Mariner, at this week's Washington Auto Show.

Ford said overall fuel efficiency for the gasoline versions of the 2009 Escape and Mariner would increase by 1 mpg compared with the 2008 versions. The fuel economy on the 2009 hybrid versions of the Escape and Mariner is not expected to change.

Both the gasoline and hybrid versions of the Escape and Mariner will have a new 2.5-liter engine that will boost power 11 percent to 170 horsepower. The gasoline versions will also offer an optional 230-hp, 3.0-liter V6 engine. The 2009 versions of both models will go on sale this summer.

Sienna warranties extended Toyota Motor Corp. is extending warranty coverage on some 2004-2006 Sienna minivans to address problems with the rear liftgate.

Toyota said there had been 34 complaints about problems opening the liftgate or keeping it in the open position, with allegations of 14 minor injuries. The warranty for the liftgate will be extended from three years or 36,000 miles to six years with no mileage limitations.

The warranty extension involves 585,000 Siennas with either manual or power liftgates.

Owners will receive a letter informing them of the warranty upgrades. Customers with questions can call Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
