The 2011 North American Soccer League champions won't be known as the NSC Minnesota Stars when they return to the field.
New name: champion NSC Stars are now 'Stars FC'
The team announced a formal name change to Minnesota Stars FC on Monday night, coinciding with the release of a new logo. The team's website changed to mnstarsfc.com, and its Twitter handle is now @mnstarsfc.
With their old name, the Stars won last year's title in the first season of the new NASL. However, the NSC portion of the name generated confusion for some; it stands for National Sports Center, the team's Blaine home.
Etc. • The Gophers and Wisconsin flipped spots in this week's United States College Hockey Online women's poll, with the Gophers taking over the top spot Monday and the Badgers falling to No. 2. The Gophers beat Wisconsin 1-0 on Saturday at Mariucci Arena, after losing in a shootout Friday in a game that officially counts as a 3-3 tie.
• Sophomore Mitch MacMillan, who recently left the St. Cloud State men's hockey team, has transferred to North Dakota. He will not be eligible to play for UND until January 2013 but can start practicing with the team.
