Officials on Monday released the name of the man who was fatally stabbed over the weekend in a park near downtown Minneapolis.

Fasel Mohamed Ali, 49, of St. Paul, suffered multiple stab wounds to his torso early Saturday in Elliot Park, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

Officers responded to a reported stabbing about 12:44 a.m. in the 1000 block of E. 14th Street and found Ali critically wounded, a police statement read.

After officers provided immediate first aid, emergency medical services personnel took him to HCMC, where he died less than an hour later.

As of late Monday afternoon, police have announced no arrests. Nor have they addressed a motive for the killing.

“Our investigators are working diligently to learn exactly what happened in this case,” Police Chief Brian O’Hara said in the release. “I am asking anyone with information to please come forward and provide us with what you know. Every piece of information can help an investigation.”

Anyone with information about Ali’s death is encouraged to contact police at policetips@minneapolismn.gov or leave a voicemail at 612-673-5845.

There have been 38 homicides in the city so far this year, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune database. That compares to 47 in the city at this time last year.
