Some of the title insurance cases in Minnesota since 2007:

Jan. 2007: First American Title Insurance Co. fined $500,000 for setting up 35 sham title companies to provide illegal kickbacks to real estate agents and others.

March 2007: Gibraltar Title Agency LLC fined $10,000 for paying kickbacks to lenders for title referrals.

April 2008: Title & Closing Inc. fined $75,000 for creating 12 sham title companies and paying kickbacks for referrals.

Nov. 2008: Signature Title Co. fined $20,000 for creating 10 sham ventures with real estate professionals who steered title work to the companies in exchange for commissions.

Nov. 2009: Independence Title Services fined $25,000 for accepting kickbacks from a sham title company.

Feb. 2010: True Title Services fined $8,000 for accepting kickbacks from sham title company.

Oct. 2011: New Millennium Title Group fined $175,000 for providing "things of value" to lenders for title referrals.

Aug. 2015: SIRVA Relocation LLC fined $10,000 for requiring real estate agents to direct all of their closings to SIRVA's title company, SIRVA Settlement Inc.

Aug. 2015: TitleSmart Inc. fined $45,000 for providing free boat cruises to 243 real estate agents, loan officers and others in exchange for title referrals.

March 2017: Liberty Title Inc. fined $45,000 for paying more than $2,000 in kickbacks to a Maple Grove real estate agent for title referrals.
