Three-time champion David Torrence of Oakland will be in the field for Thursday's 10th annual TC 1 Mile race on Nicollet Mall. Torrence was the first runner to break four minutes in the race.

More than 3,000 runners will participate in Thursday's races, with 22 men and 13 women in the elite races starting at 7:50 p.m. The first race is 6:50.

Last year's winner, Nick Willis, set a course record of 3:56.1. Torrence, a late entry, and Willis will be joined by past champion Craig Miller and former Minnesotan Will Leer, whose 3:52.47 is the fastest indoor mile in the world this year.

The women's field includes course record holder Sara Hall (4:30.8) and 2012 champion Heather Kampf of Minneapolis.

Lynx cut two players

The Lynx waived center Asya Bussie and guard Theairra Taylor, reducing their roster to 14.

The WNBA roster limit on opening day is 12. The Lynx were expected to carry only 11, but that may change due to injuries to Devereaux Peters and Monica Wright. Wright had an arthroscopic procedure on her left knee just before training camp, and Peters will have a similar procedure Wednesday.

Bussie was a second-round pick in this year's draft. She had been limited because of a strained right quadriceps. Taylor, a former St. Paul Central and Iowa star, was invited to camp.

Wolves lose development partner

The Timberwolves will have to find another NBA Development League option for its young players.

The Iowa Energy reached a single-affiliation agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies. A group of Grizzlies partners and local Iowa investors will create a new ownership group.

The options for the Wolves now are another affiliation agreement — the Energy had such deals with five NBA franchises last season — or the Wolves could secure a hybrid agreement. In the second scenario, the Wolves would run the basketball side of an operation while allowing the team owners to run the business side.
