Minnesota Scene: Three former Gophers hope to play for national volleyball team in Pan Am Cup

Gophers alumnae Hannah and Paige Tapp, and Sarah Wilhite were named to USA Volleyball's Pan American Cup preliminary roster on Tuesday. All three will compete in an intrasquad scrimmage on Friday in Irvine, Calif., which will help determine the final squad.

The Pan Am Cup will be held July 8-14 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

• Former Gophers goalie Noora Raty re-signed with the Canadian Women's Hockey League's Kunlun Red Star for the 2018-19 season. She led the CWHL with a 1.60 goals- against average and a .944 save percentage last season.

Micah Coffey, a former Gophers third baseman, went 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a walk in his debut Monday with the White Sox rookie team in the Arizona League

• Senior Casey Hovland of St. Scholastica made the College Sports Information Directors of America's NCAA Division III academic All-America first team for women's cross country and track and field. Three MIAC seniors were named to academic All-America second teams in those sports: Matthew Burgstahler, St. John's, and Karl Olsen and Annika Halverson, both of Bethel.

• The St. Paul Saints' game against the Lincoln Saltdogs in Lincoln, Neb., was postponed because of rain. They will play a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
