Minnesota Scene: Sydney Squires scores four goals as Gophers socccer team routs Iowa State

Senior forward Sydney Squires scored four goals to tie a program record as the Gophers soccer team routed Iowa State 6-1 on Sunday in the Iowa tournament at Iowa City.

All of Squires' goals came in a 17-minute stretch of the first half. She also had an assist on the game's first goal for nine points, the second most points in a match in program history.

Freshman Maddie Nielsen had one save for the Gophers (2-0-2) after replacing starting goalkeeper Kailee Sharp who was injured in pregame warm-ups.

Brown leads U.S. Senior Am

David Brown of Ligonier, Pa., shot a 70 in the second round of the U.S. Senior Amateur at the Minikahda Club to earn medalist honors. He had a 138 total heading into match play, two strokes ahead of three other golfers.

Saints swept by Fargo-Moorhead

The St. Paul Saints lost 6-5 to host Fargo-Moorhead in 11 innings. The RedHawks swept the series. Kes Carter's solo homer in the ninth inning enabled the Saints to tie the game at 5-5. Nate Hanson had a two-run double for the visitors the inning before.
