Minnesota Scene: Carl Lemke resigns as St. Croix Lutheran football coach

St. Croix Lutheran's Carl Lemke, the seventh-winningest high school football coach in state history, announced his retirement on Monday.

Last month Lemke completed his 23rd season as the Crusaders coach.

The Crusaders appeared in four Prep Bowls under Lemke. They won Class 3A state titles in 2011 and 2013 and were runners-up in 2016 and 2017.

In 46 seasons, he had a 304-150 record. The Crusaders were 6-4 this season.

St. John's was No. 3 in the final D3football.com poll and No. 4 in the final AFCA Division III poll.

Bethel was No. 7 in the D3football.com poll and No. 6 in the AFCA poll, while St. Thomas was No. 15 in D3football.com poll and No. 18 in the AFCA poll.

Mary Hardin-Baylor was No. 1 in boh polls.
