Mid-day talker: Pavano is back, but his mustache can't be the 2011 rallying point

Deep thoughts.

Take a good look at Carl Pavano's lip cabana (to borrow a term we've only recently heard, and loved, to describe a mustache). Be glad the pitcher is back. Pavano is a quality starter for the upper part of the Twins' rotation, and he was fetched for a reasonable price in this day and age.

That said -- and it pains us to say this -- but the lovefest with Pavano's mustache (or "Pavstache," if you prefer) cannot be the humorous binding element for this year's 2011 Twins and their fans. We're not saying Pavano needs to shave. We're not saying you have to stop enjoying it.

But as a cultural phenomenon, the Pavstache had a one-season window. We are now accepting applications for possible replacements for the coming season -- in the comments, as usual.
