Michael Veldman passed for 430 yards and four touchdowns, and Gustavus Adolphus held on for a 42-37 victory over host Augsburg on Saturday in Minneapolis.
Augsburg, which trailed 28-7 at halftime, outscored the Gusties 17-0 in the third quarter to pull within four points going into the fourth.
Gustavus (2-1, 1-0 MIAC) forged a 42-30 lead with 5 minutes, 16 seconds remaining, but the Auggies (2-1, 0-1) scored again — on Quinn Frisell's fifth TD pass of the game — to pull within five with 4:58 to play.
On their ensuing possession, the Gusties drove to the Auggies 5-yard line, but Augsburg got the ball back with 1:36 remaining on an interception by Matt Bowlin.
The Auggies drove to the Gustavus 39, before their drive was ended by Drew Frederickson's interception.
Jamison Beulke rushed for 99 yards and two TDs for Gustavus. Frisell passed for 451 yards and the five TDs, including three to Nick Heenie, for Augsburg.
St. Thomas 63, Carleton 0: Jacques Perra passed for 327 yards and four TDs and Jordan Roberts and Tom Loffler each ran for two TDs to pace the Tommies, ranked No. 10, past the Knights in Northfield. The Tommies (2-1, 1-0), who led 42-0 at halftime, forced four Knights turnovers and limited Carleton (0-3, 0-1) to 171 yards and nine first downs.
Concordia (Moorhead) 31, Bethel 7: Chad Johnson rushed for 191 yards and three touchdowns to help the host Cobbers, ranked No. 23 in Division III, pull away from the Royals. Johnson's 10-yard TD run late in the first half gave the Cobbers a 10-7 lead, and Concordia (3-0, 1-0) outscored the Royals 21-0 in the second half.
