Mauer says Dozier trade talk is 'tough'

December 8, 2016 at 6:47AM

During an event at the Science Museum on Tuesday, Twins first baseman Joe Mauer was asked about trade rumors surrounding second baseman Brian Dozier.

"It's always tough to lose a teammate. I've been here long enough to not react to things until they happen. With Bruno [Tom Brunansky]and Trevor [Plouffe] and some of the guys we lost already I've reached out them and had some good conversations," Mauer said. "During the year we're family and it's tough to see a family member go, but it's the nature of the business."

In regard to Dozier specifically, Mauer added, "I'm not going to react until things happen, but Brian has been a big part of our team the last few years. It would be tough, but right now he is a Twin and I like that."

When asked about new baseball bosses Derek Falvey and Thad Levine, Mauer said, "It's exciting to get to know the new guys a little bit more, and I'm very impressed."
