ST. CLOUD – The 26-year-old Sauk Rapids man who fled from police and killed two people in a crash in north St. Cloud has died.

Christopher Cortez Johnson-Caine, died from his injuries two weeks after the July 2 crash, according to a report issued Monday by St. Cloud Police Cmdr. Lori Ellering.

The follow-up investigation, Ellering said, showed Johnson-Caine had a blood-alcohol content of 0.309%, almost four times the legal limit.

Killed in the crash were Suleiman Mohamud Abdi, 59, and Craig Arthur Hennen, 45, both of St. Cloud.

According to St. Cloud police, an officer spotted Johnson-Caine speeding with the pickup’s headlights off and pulled him over about 11:45 p.m. July 2. As the officer approached the pickup, Johnson-Caine allegedly threw a gun out the window and sped away.

The officer lost sight of the pickup and chose not to pursue; instead he retrieved the gun, police said. He was then alerted by emergency dispatch of a nearby crash: Johnson-Caine had been heading north on 10th Avenue N. and hit the car driven by Abdi, who was driving west on 13th Street N.

Court records show that Johnson-Caine had been convicted four times for not being properly licensed to drive, twice for violating a court no-contact order and once each for threatening violence, domestic assault, misdemeanor assault and speeding.
