I am going to San Antonio on Sunday for the second game of the Lynx-Silver Stars series. Never been there before, so I asked Lynx center Taj McWilliams-Franklin for a scouting report.

She offered three reasons why San Antonio is a great place to live or visit:

1. The people are great country folks. Always have a smile for ya and a glad to see ya; even if you are from another state/ team!!

2. The weather is uh-maze-ing all the time!!!

3. It's where I live so it's gotta be great!!!

Mama Taj actually doesn't get to stay in San Antonio very much. Only a few weeks here and there in recent years. She plays in the WNBA during the summer -- the Lynx are her sixth team -- and overseas in the offseason.

Her husband, Reggie, and daughter Maia, 8, are there most of the year unless they are visiting her.

TAJ ON LYNX COACH

Q. How has coach Reeve contributed to the Lynx's success this season?

A. [By] being a consistent force this season. holding everyone accountable for their actions each and every time they are on the floor. Whether we are losing by 1 or winning by 15. having a spirit of expectancy each time we play, that we are going to play the perfect game, even if it never has happened.

Q. How does she motivate players?

A. Motivation for her comes from the intense desire to be the best and prove someone wrong each and every time she steps on the floor. She is an intense competitor at heart and she goes out each time she coaches to win and win and win. That is the motivation she gives to us as players. to be better than the last time. to prove folks wrong about this franchise and players abilities I.e. being only offensive-minded or one dimensional.

Q. Compare her to other coaches you have played for. Where does she rate in fairness, knowledge of game, in-game adjustments, etc.?

A. She is right up there in all of those categories. I don't compare coaches. When you've been playing as long as I have you understand that each coach has [his or her] own unique ways of doing the same things. Like teachers almost,

They use the method that bests suits their personalities and the personalities of their players and one [coach] can not be compared with the other and it's unfair to do that.

I think [coach Reeve's] knowledge of the game and attention to detail moves her to a level of coach of the year and that is the what elevates coaches in this league. Getting the very best out of your players that people have not seen before.
