Tuesday's game in Los Angeles figures to be pretty interesting. A week ago the Sparks hammered the Lynx in L.A. Friday the Lynx returned the favor. Tuesday the two teams will play for the third time in less than two weeks.
The Lynx played very, very well tonight. Coach Cheryl Reeve called it championship basketball. It started with good team defense and with Lindsay Whalen, who always seems to give this team what it needs.
Whalen had 20 points, six assists, five rebounds. She got to the line nine times, making eight. She had three steals, including one just seconds into the game that kind of set the tone for the evening.
Here are some tidbits from tonight's game:
1. Seimone Augustus came out on fire, making six of her first eight shots and scoring 12 first-quarter points. It's interesting how the team's Big Three take turns taking over. Augustus had 12 in the first, Whalen had seven in the second and eight in the third. Maya Moore had 10 points over the second and third quarters.
2. The Lynx won tonight despite starting forward Rebekkah Brunson and starting center Janel McCarville going a combined 2-for-10. It didn't matter because Devereaux Peters came off the bench to score 14 points with nine rebounds and three assists.
Which begs two questions:
A/ Has Peters turned a corner? " Well, I don't know," Reeve said. "Dev has done this before. The maturity will be, can she doe it on a consistent basis? I do know she's been the subject of our attention, in terms of maturing as a player, finishing around the basket. She did that tonight?
