Lunda, Schafer win $116M contract for I-35E bridge project

Lunda Construction Company and Schafer Contracting have been awarded a $116 million contract for the Interstate 35E Cayuga Bridge Project in St. Paul, the companies said Friday.

The project includes updating two interchanges, adding an interchange and reconstructing a two-mile segment of I-35E in St. Paul. Eleven new bridges are included in the scope of the project.

The contract was awarded by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Work is expected to begin this month and should be complete by October 2015. Officials at MnDOT were not immediately available for comment.

Black River Falls, Wis.-based Lunda is a subsidiary of the Tutor Perini Corporation. Lunda has been involved in several bridge projects in the region, including construction of the new Hastings bridge for Highway 61.

Schafer Contracting, based in Burnsville, has worked on projects for Dakota County, including adding bus shoulders on Cedar Avenue and road construction on County Road 42.
