WASHINGTON (AP) -- Kara Lawson hit a 14-foot jumper with 42 seconds left to give Washington the lead and added two free throws in the Mystics' 67-62 victory over the New York Liberty in their home opener Saturday night.

Emma Meeseman finished with 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the Mystics (2-0) , making all four of her shots from the line, including a clutch pair in the final minute to extend Washington's lead to four. Ivory Latta added 10 points, and Lawson -- who had just two made field goals in the game, both in the final two minutes -- finished with eight.

New York, which won its home opener Friday night, got 18 points and eight rebounds from Tina Charles. Carolyn Swords added 11 points off the Liberty bench, and Tanisha Wright had 10 points, going 6 for 6 from the line.

Washington took the biggest lead of the game, 51-45, on Meeseman's free throws with 53 seconds left in the third period, but New York came back to take the lead at 52-51 on Charles' 14-footer early in the fourth quarter.

Charles tied it at 62 with a minute to play, but Lawson answered from inside the top of the key.
