Lakeville North assistant takes over girls' soccer program

The coaching carousel is in full swing south of the Minnesota River.

Here are some of the moves heading into the 2014-15 school year:

• Jeremiah Johnson has been chosen to replace Bulut Ozturk in charge of the Lakeville North girls' soccer squad.

Johnson previously served as an assistant coach with the Panthers' boys' program.

The girls' squad has advanced to the Class 2A state tournament the past three years. The team was the runner-up to Minnetonka last year.

The Panthers took third place in 2012 and wound up fourth in 2011. They have won more than 50 games the past three seasons.

• Apple Valley has selected Raedi Zimmer as its girls' track and field coach. She replaces Geri Dirth, who retired at the end of the season in the spring.

Zimmer is employed by District 196 as an occupational therapist, working with special needs students.

• Shakopee is searching for three head coaches — boys' hockey, boys' lacrosse and boys' track and field.

Lee Engstrom has guided the hockey program the past three seasons. Chris Adams was the Sabers' first lacrosse mentor and lasted one season, while Tim Christensen has been head of the track and field team the last seven years.

• Jordan has hired its first boys' and girls' soccer coaches. Nathaniel Kutzwe will guide the boys' team while Janae Vogel will coach the girls' squad.

Kutzwe has been involved with the Plymouth soccer association at the youth level. Vogel has previously worked with the Prior Lake High School team, and been associated with Jordan's youth programs.

The Tigers won the consolation championship at the state tournament a year ago. They finished with an overall record of 27-9.

Minnesota River Conference rival Jordan, guided by Colleen Chambers, is ranked fifth in the same poll. The Jaguars lost to Belle Plaine in the Section 2 semifinals last season.
