The path to MLS

Minnesota United FC's development of a Major League Soccer roster will happen step by step. Some of those steps:

Sunday: A coin flipped in United's favor, and it chose to pick first in the MLS SuperDraft of American college players.

November: After the NASL playoffs, United will determine which of its current players will remain for the move to MLS.

Dec. 13: MLS expansion draft.

Jan. 11-15: The SuperDraft is held during the National Soccer Coaches Association of America convention in Los Angeles.

In the meantime: MLS teams are assigned priorities for signing national-team players and players returning to MLS and for making claims on NASL or USL players.

Jan. 22: Training camps open.

Early March: Season openers, specific dates TBD.
