Minnesotans love naming their snowplows, and this year they’ll have 30 options to choose from.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is out with the finalists in its annual “Name a Snowplow” contest, and voting will take place through Feb. 13.

MnDOT staff sifted through more than 6,750 suggestions to come up with the finalists that appear on the ballot. Among the monikers giving a nod to famous Minnesotans, the state’s unforgiving climate and pop culture are Below Zero Hero, Bob Chillin’, K Pop Blizzard Hunter and Oh, For Sleet’s Sake.

Voters can cast their ballots online and choose up to eight names. Only one ballot per person is allowed, MnDOT said.

MnDOT will take the eight suggestions with the most votes and give one to a plow in each of its eight districts. The 2026 winners will join those such as “Plowy McPlowface” and “Ctrl Salt Delete,” winning names in previous contests, which debuted in 2021 to bring a bit of levity to winter.
