Lora hotel opens in Stillwater

Stillwater's newest hotel, Lora, opened Monday.

The 40-room boutique hotel is housed within four buildings that were originally carved into the limestone bluffs in the late 1800s to form the Joseph Wolf Brewery.

Lora is the first hotel in the Midwest managed by Portland-based Provenance Hotels. The hotel was developed by Elevage Development, which is headquartered in Minneapolis. Local forms ESG Architecture & Design and Zeman Construction designed and built the $13.5 million development.

Lora offers guests and visitors several food and beverage options including full-service restaurant Feller, a cocktail bar called the Long Goodbye, and the MADE coffee and juice bar.

Doran and CSM break ground on the Expo, a 25-story apartment complex

Developers broke ground this week on the $100 million apartment project called the Expo.

Doran Cos. and CSM Corp. are building the 368-unit complex in the St. Anthony Falls Historic District across the river from downtown Minneapolis.

The development is Doran's biggest to date.

"We are excited to get going and to further add to the vitality of this unique neighborhood along the Mississippi River," Doran founder Kelly Doran said in a statement. "Our long-term commitment to this dynamic part of downtown — including our existing 338-unit Mill & Main luxury apartment community — remains a key focus for us and we are excited to develop, build and manage additional property here for the long-term."

The team bought the 2.54-acre site, which had been used as parking lot, last year. The Expo will be made up of a 25-story tower and a six-story building with more apartments and retail.

"CSM Corp. and Doran Cos. have worked very hard and we are proud to bring these beautiful, amenity-rich buildings to the market," CSM CEO Gary Holmes said.
