Gophers fans rejoice: Joey King is officially eligible for the 2013-14 season.
A source confirmed the long-awaited news that the NCAA has approved the Eagan native's waiver to the Star Tribune on Thursday evening. The university had submitted the request weeks ago.
The Drake transfer's immediate availability is a huge boost for the Gophers, whose frontcourt is very thin otherwise after the losses of Trevor Mbakwe and Rodney Williams. The 6-7 King will likely start the season at power forward. Without him, Minnesota would have conceivably been looking at a four-guard lineup.
King averaged 6.9 points and 2.9 rebounds a game last year at Drake.
